I Use a Sony Up-DR150's and all works perfectly, however I have purchased some Cannon Selphy's (CP740) as back ups and when I select this printer the overlay.png file seems not to appear on the prints, anyone have any idea why?

Do the Canon printers have a lower resolution than the Sony? If so, the overlay image is probably too large for the page and you're just seeing the top left hand corner of it. What you need to do is define a layout for each combination of printer and printer settings.
