Canon Rebel 1000 xs Problem

I have a Canon Rebel 1000D xs that I have hooked up and the live view as shown on computer screen is absolutely terrible. It is grainning, has horizontal lines running through it and fades in and out. I believe it is the camera which I bought specifically to use for this only a coulpe weeks ago. Anyone else have a simuliar problem or does it sound like a camera problem. At this point I can still return the camera for refund or exchange.

check your camera cable first, try a different one, just to be sure

yes the live view is crappy looking, but a lot better than a point and shoot.
add some lights and it shoudl look better.

If you use a low ISO setting (e.g. ISO 400 or less) and have plenty of light the live view images should be high quality.
