Hello,

Has anyone heard of a dye sub that can perform different cuts other than the 2X6" from 4X6" paper BESIDES the Sony UPDR 200? The UPDR200 can do 3.5 X 5" cuts from 5X7" paper, or 4X6" from 6X8" paper, but nothing that resembles a vertical strip shape other than the 2x6 cut.

If nothing exists, is it possible to create a custom driver for a dye sub? Obviously, this would require a high degree of technical skill.....not sure if you can even hire someone to do this or if you would have to work with the company direct? We are wanting to use 5 by 7 paper with a vertical cut and wondering how impossible this would be.

Thank you!

Dye sub printers with roll paper can only cut across the width of the paper. Cutting along the length would be mechanically impossible. So they are limited by not only firmware, which instructs the blades when to cut, but by the width of the paper. So you would be wanting to find a printer that uses 7" rolls paper rolls AND has the firmware to cut at 3.5" intervals. Or a printer with 8" paper and so on. I think Sony is the only one with the perforated paper (along the rolls' entire length) that kinda gives you this. 4" paper that splits in to 2" paper. Looks like this is only offered with an 8" length. So, they'll allow you 2 - 2"x8" strips.

So, you want 2.5" x 7" prints right? Don't think you'll get that within a printer. Probably cheaper to just make the 5x7 (laid out as 2 strips) and then get a die cutter made to chop the print down in one cut.
