Hello, does any one know why a COM port would keep spontaneously dropping off? I use a serial to USB port to drive some push buttons to activate the booth. This has been quite a stable solution, until now.

It could be a faulty USB to serial adapter cable or a driver problem. I recommend using the StealthSwitch method of connecting arcade buttons as this tends to be more reliable.

Thanks Chris. It does seem the serial to USB are harder to come by as well. Can the 'switch end' of a stealth switch be converted to any other sort of two wire button? I use a sort of a button that is quite in keeping with the style of my booth that I would not want to change. Thanks.

The StealthSwitch 2 and 3 both have 3.5mm sockets which allow you to connect any switch you like. Please see this page:

I don't know whether you could break open the footswitch or cut the cable for the original StealthSwitch and use your own switch but I suspect you probably can.
