Preview image dissapears. No icc profiles assigned.

Hi,

I'm evaluating BB Pro since few days. BBP Version 1.0.1 on Win2K (SP 4)
I don't know why but the preview image in the raw conversion
dialog dissapears sometimes. It works again after restarting BBP.

One other confusing thing I noticed is the "colorspace conversion".
The target images does not have any ICC profile assigned at all.
I have to assign them after conversion in another program.

Are this known bugs or features?

I haven't come across any problems with the raw preview of 20D images using linear conversion. I always use normal or combined conversion with my 20D raw files, but I will do some more testing in this area. There are one or two problems with the Canon SDK for which I've added workarounds in the next release so maybe the problem will go away.

The colorspace conversion will only work if the source image contains a color profile otherwise it doesn't know what colorspace to use. Provided the source image contains a color profile the output image should be converted to the output color space and have the profile embedded.

Chris,

I've seen something similar in BreezeBrowser 2.11 with my 20D images. It seems to happen when i switch from Normal -> Linear in the drop down box. The image goes black. If I exit and restart then everything is back to normal. I could, of course, be doing something wrong

yes switching between linear and normal conversion as mentioned
by Adrian seems to be the cause.
I know the canon libraries are very tricky to work with. Did you ever
thing about using David Coffin's conversion code (DCRAW)?

I use the ICC profiles from Wojciech Tryc (see http://aboutdigicam.com/products.html)
They are really worth the money.
I allways though color profiles are assigned after the conversion.
I set the Adobe RGB colorspace in my EOS 20D. What went wrong?
Here the preferences dialog.

Perhaps, a histogram in the "thumbnail" and "film stip" views would be a nice
feature. (as a non modal dialog; tool-window or docked on the left bottom corner of the window)

Any help would be appreciated,

I have looked at the DCRAW conversion routines but they don't give the quality and consistency the Canon routines give.

The color profile specified in preferences is assigned in the raw conversion window when you select the colorspace. Unfortunately there is a bug in the Canon SDK which means that it isn't possible to read the "as shot" color space from 20D raw files and so the auto embed option doesn't work at the moment.

Hmm.. BBP seems to ignore embeded profiles even when viewing
converted images (TIFF) with a gamma 1.0 profile. Thumbnails
appears bright but the images are displayed in another color space,
probably Adobe RGB 1998 or sRGB irrespective of the embeded one!

BBP unfortunately seems not to be what I'm looking for. It's a nice
and fast viewer but the conversion quality seems to be exactly the
same as when using Canon's Digital Photo Professional (which isn't bad; same SDK).
In other words, I don't see any advantage in using it as a replacement
for Canon's software.
